To address this issue, the National Program for the Development of Academic Leadership conducted a study on leadership and management in academia in Israel. The study included several research methods, including preliminary meetings with selected academic leaders, a comparative literature review, and semi-structured interviews with leaders from various universities in the country.

The research aims to answer several key questions about leadership in the higher education sector in Israel. These include:

  • What motivates faculty members to take on leadership roles in the academy?
  • What are the decision-making processes for selecting people for senior positions?
  • What tools and training are available to leaders to help them perform their roles effectively?
  • Are there performance evaluation processes in place for academic leaders? If so, how are they implemented?
  • How can motivation be improved and those engaged in leadership positions in the academy be rewarded for their efforts?

By addressing these questions, the study aims to identify ways to improve and strengthen leadership in the higher education sector in Israel. The findings of the study will be valuable for academic institutions seeking to better support and develop their leaders and ensure that they are equipped to successfully navigate the challenges facing the higher education sector.
