The object of this research is to evaluate the level of Israel’s diagnostic industry and its products in comparison to the products of industries in leading countries in the western world: Germany, U.S.A. and Japan. The work was based on a field survey conducted in all diagnostic industries in Israel. The comparison of data to that of industries abroad was done by using a data base provided to us by the ISI institute in Karlsruhe, Germany, in the framework of a comprehensive research project conducted in cooperation with researchers in that Institute. A techno metric model, developed at the ISI was applied in this project making it possible to compare the profile of the Israeli products to their competitors in the world.
Results of the evaluation indicated that Israeli Industry is not inferior at all and certainly belongs to the league of the leading western countries which are considered economic powers. If we add to this the fact that in Israel this industry is very young, most of the industries were established after 1980 and their products first appeared in 1985, we have before us an impressive achievement of technological progress. However, the newly found technological excellence is not translated sufficiently to marketing practices as the matter warrants. The difficulties encountered by the Israeli firms stem from their being young and small and from lack of available investment capital for the critical stage of marketing and sales.
