The objective of this study is to execute forecasts of the needs of scientific and technological personnel for selected fields \/ professions for the short term (10 years)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he past two decades have been characterized by accelerated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">growth<\/span><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of<\/span><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">new technologies in the fields of robotics, communications and information systems, nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy and more. Technologies that affect all areas of the economy (health, education, industry, agriculture, trade, etc.) and dictate new work patterns, new professions\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">while others disappear\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0appropriate training and skills. In the business sector in Israel, there is often a claim of a shortage of manpower in various fields (cyber, computers, electricity, water, energy, environment, construction, infrastructure, etc.).\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of the Israeli government need to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0examine whether technological \/ vocational education and academic education\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supply<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0suitable manpower to meet market needs. The formulation of a long-term science and technology policy is an important task, based on analyzing the development trends of various\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">technological\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fields over time, understanding the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">potential contribution of science and technology to the economy and society, and identifying barriers that hinder possible developments (IDC, 2001)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This report, which was submitted at the end of the second year of the project, focuses on two issues:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Energy Storage<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Smart Cities<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We hope that this work will help to expand understanding and knowledge about future demands for scientific and technological manpower, and to guide and prioritize investments in human resources training in science and technology in areas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of demand<\/span><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This study was conducted as part of a four-year tender for the National Council for Research and Development in the Ministry of Science\u00a0and\u00a0Technology.
