You are invited to another lecture in the colloquium series of the Samuel Neaman Institute. This series explores the impact of social processes\u2014such as culture, technology, ethics, and geopolitics\u2014on higher education, research, and development.<\/p>\n

Speaker: Prof. Efraim Lev<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The upcoming lecture will open with a brief overview of the medieval Middle East, highlighting Cairo’s central role and the presence of Jewish communities across the region, particularly in Egypt and Cairo. It will then introduce the story of the Cairo Genizah, its discovery, and its significance in the study of medieval Mediterranean society. The core of the lecture will focus on unique medical insights drawn from Genizah documents, including practical materials such as prescriptions, lists of medicinal substances, letters, and notebooks, as well as theoretical medical texts and references to the practitioners of the time\u2014physicians and pharmacists.<\/p>\n
