Prof. Ofira Ayalon is research lead for Energy and Environment at the Samuel Neaman Institute and affiliated with the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Haifa. She holds a BSc in Biotechnology and Food Engineering and PhD in Waste Management from the Technion. She has served as Director of the Natural Resource and Environmental Research Center at the University of Haifa since 2010, and is head of the Energy Management and Policy Program. Ayalon received the 2018 Michael Landau Prize in the field of Sustainability recognizing her important scientific contributions to the field both in Israel and globally. Her diverse expertise spans waste management, food loss reduction, energy management and policy, biofuel potential, agricultural sustainability, cleantech, air pollution, and the role of nature in enhancing personal resilience. Ayalon’s research has significantly influenced national environmental policy decision-making, collaborating with governmental bodies for impactful policy implementations, notably in energy and environmental sectors. Her work stands as a model for advancing sustainable practices in Israel’s academic and public arenas.
