Yehudit Judy Dori is the Dean of Continuing Education and External Studies and a professor at the Department of Education in Technology and Science at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. Professor Dori received her B.Sc. in chemistry from Hebrew University, Jerusalem in 1975, M.Sc. in Life Sciences in 1981, and Ph.D. in Science Education in 1988, both from Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.
She was Visiting Professor at MIT, Engineering Systems Division, between 2008 and 2009 and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives at Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1999-2001.
Her research interests are distance education, scientific visualizations, higher order thinking skills, and educational assessment at both high school and university levels. Her studies include development and implementation of teaching approaches and curricula, as well as assessment of their educational value.
Prof. Dori was on the editorial board of Journal of Research in Science Teaching (JRST) and the Chemical Educator. She was a Coordinator of the Policy Strand in the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) and a Coordinator of the Assessment and Evaluation SIG, at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) and the Israeli representative at that organization. Currently, she is on the editorial board of Journal of Science Education and Technology.
Prof. Dori has advised 35 graduate students and received numerous grants from the Israeli Ministry of Education as well as from the European Union, totaling over $2M. Between 2000 and 2005 she was the Assessment Leader of Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL) at MIT. Between 2007 and 2008 she conducted the assessment of the Concourse project and between 2008-2009 the assessment of the the iGEM project both at MIT. She was also the leader of the assessment of the Product Development course in the framework of the MIT-Portugal program. She has authored 50 refereed journal papers, 12 educational software modules, and 14 textbooks for nurses and high school students. She was the guest editor of two special issues on the educational reform at MIT (Journal of Science Education and Technology 2007, 2008). Her book on metacognition in science education, which she co-edited with Prof. Zohar, will be published by Springer in 2010.

Where is Chemistry Education Heading?
More than a decade ago, working groups at the Neaman Institute explored the future of the chemical industry in Israel. One of the four working groups focused on the question of education in chemistry. Under the leadership of Prof. Judy Dori, this group investigated the state of chemistry teaching in Israel and the future of chemistry education in Israel by interviewing and administering questionnaires to chemists, chemical engineers, academics, and teachers.
